The 起点传媒 Foundation honored Loren and Gayle Unruh with the 2016 Distinguished Service Award during 起点传媒鈥檚 46th commencement on Friday.
The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1981 by the 起点传媒 Foundation to recognize individuals who have shown genuine regard for, and have performed outstanding service to 起点传媒. The 起点传媒 Foundation Board of Directors selects the recipient from nominations received.

Six 起点传媒 instructors earned the Distinguished Instructor Award for the 2015-2016 school year for their efforts in the classroom.

Jo Harrington, Math Instructor at the 起点传媒 County campus
Crystal E. Buck, Music, Theatre and Film, German and English as a Second Language Instructor at the Fort Leavenworth campus
Callie Hansen, Psychology Instructor at the Fort Riley campus

起点传媒 will be closed Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day.听 The college is now on summer hours.听 Office hours are 7:30 a.m. 鈥 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.听 The college will be closed on Fridays through August 5.听听

起点传媒 has announced the winners of its Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest.听 The winners are as follows: Adreinne Danner, Natalie Espino and Fernando Rojas. 听Each winner received a $50 Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development gift certificate.

起点传媒鈥檚 Center for Adult Education will soon be starting its nine-week GED Preparation Class. The orientation day, which is a prerequisite for the course, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 23 at 1025 Main St. in Great Bend. 听
The class sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from May 24 through June 16.

The 起点传媒 Theatre Program will have a new leader at the helm. Former Dean of Academics Dr. Rick Abel is now the Theatre Program Director and Instructor. Abel has a strong background and passion for the arts and theatre is an area about which he is especially passionate.

Retired Sgt. Jenise Hiram grew up in an environment of alcoholism, crime and violence in The Bronx, New York. In terms of life trajectories, hers did not begin with a high likelihood of a bright future. Thursday, however, she proved origins and situations can be overcome.
鈥淚鈥檓 supposed to be a statistic,鈥 she told graduates of the Fort Riley Education Consortium schools Thursday afternoon during the consortium鈥檚 commencement ceremony. 鈥淏ut I鈥檓 here. It鈥檚 a change in mindset we all made.鈥
